Public helped brand bottled Milwaukee water

The Milwaukee Press Club invited the public to vote to decide the best brand name for a special, limited edition, bottled water to celebrate the City of Milwaukee’s 163rd Birthday. The club’s water-naming contest was launched in October, resulting in nearly 200 brand name suggestions. The club selected 15 names as finalists, based on creativity and ability to reflect the importance of water as a resource for Milwaukee and the region.
The public was able to vote for its favorite by visiting the press club’s Web site. Six-packs of the limited supply of bottled water were given out at the City of Milwaukee’s 163rd Birthday Party January 27, after press time.

The finalists included:

H2 Oh Milwaukee!: Drink It In

Menominee Indian Tribe to challenge Fed’s rejection of Kenosha casino

Lisa Waukau, Chair of the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin, says the Menominee Indian Tribe of Wisconsin will challenge in court last month’s rejection by the Federal Bureau of Indian Affairs of the Tribe’s application to build an entertainment center and casino at Dairyland Greyhound Park in Kenosha.

“The Department’s action in rejecting the Tribe’s application is not based on the facts or the law. It is the product of an illegal guidance memorandum that is the current subject of litigation between the Tribe and the Department. The Department’s action ensures that the Tribe will pursue this litigation vigorously. The only viable legal argument that the Department has put forward in the litigation is that it had not made a final decision on our application; therefore, the Tribe’s lawsuit was premature. The Department’s latest action removed that argument, and we are supremely confident that the Court will overturn this illegal action. “The rejection is not the end of the project, only a temporary setback.”
